The 2019 Heatwave for Central Alabama by the Numbers

The following information was corrected based on a report from the NWS Birmingham that the 103F originally reported for October 2nd was incorrect. The value was revised downward to 99F, still a record for the date.

…3: The number of days that Alabama was the hottest spot in the country.

…101F: The hottest October temperature ever measured at Birmingham, on Wednesday, October 2nd.

…9: The number of consecutive days that Birmingham recorded daily record highs.

…15: Number of consecutive days above 90F at Birmingham, beginning with 91F on September 21st and ending on October 5th. And Birmingham reached 90F on 28 days during September, including two 99F readings on the 13th and 17th.

…82.1F: The mean temperature at Birmingham for September, second only to the 84.2 degrees recorded in September 1925.

…20 consecutive days without rain at the Birmingham Airport from September 15th until October 4th. That made two such 20-day streaks this summer. The other ended on June 5th.
