Rain Is Getting Closer At Midday… Nice Temperatures At This Point

The southeastern US radar composite as of 11:00 am shows a few scattered showers over the western parts of Central Alabama and potentially a few showers falling over parts of Blount and Cullman counties. While these showers are light in nature, the main activity still lies to our north and west stretching from southern Kentucky through much of Tennessee and down across much of Arkansas and into eastern Texas.

Nice temperatures at this time as we are seeing mid-60s to the mid-70s across the area. Birmingham was at 70 degrees. Haleyville was the cool spot at 64 degrees. Selma was the warm spot at 75 degrees.

The latest complete run of the HRRR shows showers eventually moving into the northwestern parts of Central Alabama during the early afternoon hours, pushing into the Birmingham metropolitan area by the evening rush hour, and exiting the area at midnight with only a few lingering showers remaining in the southeastern parts of the area. Skies will be mostly cloudy when it’s not raining and highs will reach the mid-60s to the upper 70s across the area. Rain should come to an end during the early parts of the overnight hours and all of Central Alabama will be dry. Lows will dip down into the mid-30s to the mid-50s from northwest to southeast.

Skies will be in a slow clearing process from north to south throughout the day on Friday, but temperatures will be much cooler along with a breeze out of the north. Highs will be in the upper 40s to the lower 60s from northwest to southeast. For the high school football games, temperatures will start off in the lower 40s to the mid-50s at kickoff and fall into the mid-30s to the upper 40s by the final whistle. Lows will eventually make it down into the upper 20s to the upper 30s.

For those heading to Tuscaloosa to watch the big game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, it will be a nice cool day… nearly perfect for football. We’ll have plenty of sunshine throughout the game with temperatures starting off in the upper 50s at kickoff and falling to right around 50 degrees for the final whistle. There will be a very light wind out of the southwest. If you are tailgating before the game, temperatures will start off in the lower 40s at 8:00 am and will warm into the mid-50s by noon.
