Freeze Watch Issued For Much Of Central Alabama Until Saturday 8:00 AM

NWS Birmingham has issued a FREEZE WATCH starting at 10:00 pm Friday for the following counties in Central Alabama: Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston. The watch is set to expire Saturday at 8:00 am.

…FREEZE WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING…

* WHAT…Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 degrees.

* WHERE…the north half, and western half, of central Alabama.

* WHEN…From Friday evening through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
