Rainy Saturday Night Ahead

| December 21, 2019 @ 3:37 pm

Our weather has turned wet this afternoon all thanks to the area of low pressure in the Gulf. It continues to pump moisture north into the state which is allowing for rain to overspread the state late this afternoon. This will continue as we head into the overnight hours, setting the stage for a great night of sleeping weather and makes me think of the old Eddie Rabbit song, “I Love the Rainy Nights.”

Through the overnight hours expect periods of rain; light, moderate, and heavy at times; along with chilly temperatures as most locations will hover in the 40s tonight. For tomorrow, along with rain and temperatures struggling to climb out of the 40s, add in blustery northeast winds of 15-25 mph at times, and it will be downright a raw, winter’s day for Alabama.

Rainfall totals from last night and through tonight for North and Central Alabama will be in the 1-2 inch range, while totals of 3-5 inches are possible for southern portions of the state.

There could be some areas of isolated flooding, but for the most part we expect no widespread flooding issues. Additionally, the air is very stable, so severe weather is not an issue, but perhaps some rumbles of thunder will be heard.
