At this point, we do have some good breaks in the cloud cover allowing a good bit of sunshine to reach the surface. No moisture showing up on radar at this point as well, so it has turned out to be a decent Friday afternoon across the area. Temperatures were in the upper 50s to the lower 70s across the area. Birmingham was at 62 degrees. The cool spot was Cullman at 57 degrees. The warm spot was Selma at 72 degrees.

We’ll continue to have mostly clear to partly cloudy skies across the area for the last few hours of daylight with only a very slight chance of a sprinkle over the extreme western parts of the area. Highs will top out in the upper 50s to the lower 70s. For tonight, A few showers will be possible over the west and northwestern parts of the area after midnight, while the rest of Central Alabama remains dry with mostly cloudy skies. Lows will be in the lower 40s to the lower 50s.

1817 – A luminous snowstorm occurred in Vermont and New Hampshire. Saint Elmo’s fire appeared as static discharges on roof peaks, fence posts, and the hats and fingers of people. Thunderstorms prevailed over central New England.

2010 – A series of strong Pacific storms impacted Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah from January 17th through 23rd, leaving behind several feet of snow across the higher terrain and breaking numerous lowest barometric pressure records across the region. Sunrise Mountain, Arizona received 77 inches of snow, while Mammoth Lakes, California received 90 inches.
