A Beautiful Day for Mother’s Day, Dry and Warming for the Week Ahead

| May 10, 2020 @ 6:30 am

WE SALUTE YOU MOM! I hope that the day we set aside for you, Mom, is special! We appreciate all that you do for us!

BRIGHT REFRESHING MORNING: Temperatures started off in the upper 30s and lower 40s across North and Central Alabama under partly cloudy skies. Readings will recover into the lower 70s under a strong spring sun by afternoon.

REINFORCEMENTS ARRIVE: A dry cold front will pass through the state today and it will bring more cool, dry air into the area. With a gusty northerly wind tonight, lows will drop into the upper 40s. Highs tomorrow will struggle to reach 70F in many spots.

EASY PEASY FORECAST: High pressure will do it May-style this week and the result will be beautiful conditions all week. Lots of sunshine each day through Friday, with lows slowly warming through the 40s into the 50s and 60s by Friday morning. Highs Tuesday will be in the middle 70s on average, lower 80s Wednesday, middle 80s Thursday, and upper 80s by Friday.

WEEKEND OUTLOOK: It looks like the weekend will remain dry, but high pressure will start to weaken by the following Monday, allowing for a front to deliver showers and storms to the state.

VOODOO COUNTRY: The end of the period around the 23rd looks wet, but Memorial Day looks like it will feature warn and dry weather.

TROPICS: Watching an area of disturbed weather moving across the Gulf of Mexico. It will bring heavy rains to South Florida and the Bahamas by Sunday. Tropical development doesn’t look likely, but that time of year is not far away.

BEACHCAST: Perfect weather for the week ahead along the beautiful beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida. Lows in the 50s and 60s, highs in the 70s today trending toward the upper 80s by week’s end. Water temperatures are running 70F. Low rip current risk with surf running less than 2 feet this week.

ON THIS DATE IN 2012: Prince Charles tried his hand as a weather presenter on television during a visit to the BBC studios in Scotland. “Potential for a few flurries over Balmoral — who the hell wrote this script?” Charles asked in one of the funny highlights of the recording.
