An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

MOIST AIR LINGERS: While drier air in the mid levels has moved into North Alabama this afternoon shutting down the big rains (a few scattered showers do linger), low level moisture remains very high, with surface dewpoints in the 70s along the I-20 corridor. So, for the weekend, we expect a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow and Sunday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, possibly numerous at times. Both the 12Z runs of the GFS and the NAM are a little wetter; the NAM is printing 1.63″ through Sunday, while the GFS is almost identical with 1.60″. Bottom line is that rain could come at any time tomorrow and Sunday, so keep the rain gear handy.

NEXT WEEK: With the upper ridge rebuilding across the Deep South, we still expect a trend toward warmer and drier weather next week. Highs should be close to 90, with showers and storms becoming widely scattered, and mainly during the afternoon and evening hours.

VOODOO LAND: Still no sign of any really serious heat building around here through mid-August; the hottest weather in the nation should stay out west, with temperatures here a little below average, with rain above average. And, the tropics remain very quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record a new episode tonight since I will be on vacation next week… legendary storm chaser Dave Hoadley will be our guest. The show should be posted by 10:30 or so.
