Their cover of the song Weekend is the official theme song for our favorite part of the week. It became a hit in 1979 and is still played by some radio stations at 5 o’clock on Friday as the kickoff to the weekend. But the song most familiar to listeners of Top 40 radio in the 1970s was the band Wet Willie’s biggest hit, Keep on Smillin’, which rocketed to number 10 on the Billboard chart in 1974.

From Mobile, Wet Willie was a staple of southern rock in the 70s, opening for the Allman Brothers and becoming the second major recording stars on the famed Capricorn label after the Allman Brothers. Lead singer Jimmy Hall will make a special appearance on the popular WeatherBrains podcast with Alabama’s meteorologist James Spann of ABC3340 in Birmingham. Jimmy will talk about that era in music and the band’s history and will explore our favorite Wet Willie song, which is more relevant than ever today. Jimmy recently appeared with the band Blackberry Smoke for a remake of his famous song on their new album. It’s destined to be a hit again!

Join James and the gang as they welcome Jimmy tonight at 8 p.m. CDT live at live.bigbrainsmedia.com or on James Spann’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/jamesspann. The show is also broadcast live on the JamesSpann 24×7 WeatherChannel on the 3340 dot.two over the air channel or on most cable systems across Central Alabama. You can listen to the WeatherBrains audio podcast anywhere you get your podcasts, or at WeatherBrains.com after it’s posted early Tuesday morning.
