A Big Patch of Clouds in the Middle, Sun Elsewhere

Most of Alabama is sunny on this Sunday, but you wouldn’t know it in the Birmingham Metro, where a large patch of clouds associated with an area of vorticity is spinning slowly above Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, and parts of surrounding counties.

Temperatures are cooler under the clouds, running around 80F, with mid 80s common elsewhere.

There may be some type of differential heating that helps to set up showers in the vicinity of this feature, and the vorticity won’t hurt either I guess.

Already seeing some vertical development south of Sumiton across eastern Wakker/western Jefferson Counties.

Scattered showers and storms will develop this afternoon. Most spots should get in the lower 90s with the exception of a few locations that may have a hard time getting out of the upper 80s due to the clouds.

Any storms that form will have lightning, brief heavy rain, and gusty winds, so give them the respect they deserve.

The week ahead will feature enhanced rain chances and slightly cooler temps, cooler as in the upper 80s for highs.
