A Quick Look at Alabama’s Weather Just Before 2 p.m.

A cold frontal boundary is just south of I-59 this afternoon. It is evident in the visible satellite imagery. There is a nice cumulus field to the south, with fewer of the convective clouds behind the front.

Temperatures are in the lower 80s north, to middle 80s in the I-20 Corridor, to 90s over South Alabama.

No showers showing up right now in Alabama, although a couple of isolated ones are possible.

You can see Tropical Storm Isaias ooff the East Coast of Florida. It is approaching the latitude of Vero Beach as it continues moving north northwest at 8 mph. Air Force recon just fixed the center after passing through the northeastern semicircle. It encountered some flight-level winds in the 60-65 knot range, consistent with a 65 mph tropical storm. The central pressure was 995 mb.

The SpaceX crew in the Dragon spacecraft just came out of a planned blackout period as it re-enters the Earth’s atmosphere heading for a splashdown in about 5 minutes (around 1:49 p.m.) to a site about 40 miles south of Pensacola in the Gulf of Mexico.
