A Few Spotty Showers Out There At Midday; Mother Natures Cranks Up the Heat for Saturday

A LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AT 12:20 PM

Nearly all of Central Alabama is free at the lunchtime hour, but we do see a few spotty showers already starting to show up over the northeastern parts of the area. I do not believe it will be that much longer before we see more shower and eventually thunderstorm development as we move deeper into the afternoon.

Temperatures as of the official noon roundup were in the mid-80s to the lower 90s across the area. Montgomery was the hot spot at 92 degrees. Bessemer and Haleyville were tied as the cool spots at 86 degrees. Birmingham was at 87 degrees.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR FRIDAY

Skies will continue to be mostly clear to partly cloudy across the area, but we will see a few more isolated showers and thunderstorms develop during the afternoon and into the early evening hours, with the higher concentration of those occurring over the eastern half of the area. It will be a hot and steamy one out there with highs reaching the lower to mid-90s across the area. Things should quiet down rather quickly after sunset and we’ll be left with partly cloudy skies. Lows will be in the upper 60s to the lower 70s.

HOT & DRY FOR MOST ON YOUR SATURDAY

It will be a scorcher across Central Alabama on Saturday as skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy. There will be only a very small chance of an isolated shower or two mainly for locations south of I-20. The rest of the area will be hot and dry. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 90s.

THE TROPICS

Invest 94L has dissipated from existence, but now we have a tropical wave that is located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Slow development of this system is possible during the next couple of days as it moves slowly westward. After that time, environmental conditions are expected to become less conducive for development. No current threats to the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coasts or to the US Atlantic Coast.
