Sunny and Hot Saturday Afternoon

| August 8, 2020 @ 12:26 pm

Temperatures continue to climb as we head into the afternoon hours as we are seeing more sunshine than clouds across North/Central Alabama.

Highs this afternoon should range from the low to mid-90s, and the chance for rain remains low as any showers and storms out there, will be few and far between.

A quick look at the radar at midday, shows a few showers across Southeast Alabama, but for now, much of North/Central Alabama remains rain-free.

JUST AS HOT TOMORROW: Copy and paste the weather from today, into the forecast for our Sunday. Expect more sun than clouds, highs in the low to mid-90s again, and low rain chances are showers and storms should remain fairly isolated in nature during the afternoon and evening hours.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Moisture levels rise meaning more humid conditions as we roll into the week ahead. The upper-ridge weakens some as well allowing the air aloft to a bit cooler, which will allow for our rain chances to increase some each afternoon. Still nothing widespread, but showers and storms will go from isolated over this weekend, to more scattered in nature each day, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. However, most of the time this weekend, the days will feature a mix of sun and clouds, with highs mostly in the low 90s.

IN THE TROPICS: The Atlantic Basin is pretty quiet for now, but there is still the one tropical wave the NHC is monitoring, but through the next five days, tropical cyclone development is not expected. But, tropical wave located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing a few showers and thunderstorms. Some slight development of this system is possible during the next day or so while it moves slowly westward. After that time, environmental conditions are expected to become less conducive for development. Formation chance through 5 days…low…10 percent.

PERSEID METEOR ALERT: Earth is entering a stream of debris from giant Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, source of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Although the display is not expected to peak until August 11-13, sky watchers are already seeing some of the most beautiful fireballs of the year.
