At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Rene was located near latitude 17.6 North, longitude 31.5 West. Rene is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h), and a motion toward the west-northwest is expected for the next couple of days, followed by a turn to the northwest.
Satellite-derived wind data indicate that the maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 MB (29.62 inches).
