Mostly Cloudy & Dry Just Before Midday; Tropics All Quiet for Now

| September 25, 2020 @ 11:15 am

TAKING A LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AT 11:00 AM

Beta refuses to let us have any uninterrupted sunshine across Central Alabama as we start the run-up to midday. Skies are mostly cloudy to completely overcast across the area at this time, but no rain is showing up on radar. Thay may change a little later in the afternoon, but chances are small at best for the eastern half of the area. Temperatures were in the mid-60s to the upper 70s across the area. Troy was the warm spot at 77 degrees while Haleyville was at 66 degrees as the cool spot. Birmingham was at 71 degrees.

PESKY CLOUDS & A STRAY SHOWER OR TWO FOR YOUR FRIDAY

As the center of the remnants of Beta continues to slowly move eastward into Georgia while in the process of dissipating, we’ll continue to hang on to much of the cloud cover throughout the rest of your Friday. The western half of Central Alabama will remain dry and so should much of the eastern half as well, but a few isolated to scattered showers may be possible before the afternoon comes to an end. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 70s to the mid-80s across the area from northwest to southeast. Any shower activity that does form this afternoon will quickly dissipate or move out of the area by sunset and the rest of the evening through the overnight hours will be dry with clouds starting to slowly decrease. Temperatures around 6:00 pm will be in the 70s and steadily falling into the mid-60s to right around 70 degrees at 7:00 pm. Overnight lows will bottom out in the lower to mid-60s.

Some patchy fog will develop tonight and through the pre-dawn hours on Saturday that may reduce visibilities to less than one mile in some locations. Use extra caution if having to travel late tonight through Saturday morning.

A VERY NICE SATURDAY AHEAD

High pressure takes over our weather pattern for the first half of the weekend as sinking air will bring some quiet conditions to Central Alabama with a mix of sun and clouds. With the location of the low, we’ll get some warmer air pumped into the area from the south, and therefore highs will be warmer than what we’ve seen over the past week. Highs will be in the upper 70s to the mid-80s across the area from northwest to southeast. Saturday evening and night look to be great as skies will remain partly cloudy and free from rain. Temperatures will start off in the 70s around 6:00 pm and steadily fall into the upper 60s to the lower 70s by 10:00 pm. Overnight lows will bottom out in the 60s.

UNUSUALLY QUIET IN THE TROPICS

Tropical cyclone activity is all quiet across the North Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico. No new tropical cyclone formation is expected throughout the next five days. The last advisory for the remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Beta was issued at 4:00 am this morning and there will be no more issued by the WPC. Beta is expected to completely dissipate by Saturday morning.
