Warmer Over The Weekend; Showers Return Sunday

| September 25, 2020 @ 3:14 pm

CLOUDY FRIDAY: Most of Alabama is covered by clouds this afternoon, although the sky is sunny along the Gulf Coast. We had some drizzle in scattered spots earlier today, but there is nothing on radar this afternoon, and tonight will be generally rain-free statewide with lows in the 60s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The weather turns warmer over the weekend. Tomorrow will feature a partly sunny sky with a high in the mid 80s. Then, on Sunday, we will bring back the chance of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms with a high between 82 and 85. Odds of any one spot getting wet Sunday are around 30 percent.

NEXT WEEK: We will maintain the chance of showers Monday and Tuesday as a cold front approaches and passes through the state. The high Monday will be in the upper 70s, but Tuesday’s high will be in the upper 60s as cooler air rolls into the state. Then, look for sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights Wednesday through Friday with highs in the 70s, and lows in the 40s and 50s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn will host Kentucky at Jordan Hare Stadium tomorrow (11a CT kickoff)… expect a partly sunny sky… temperatures will rise into the low 80s during the game. And, Alabama travels to Columbia, Missouri to take on Mizzou tomorrow night (6p CT kickoff); the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 82 at kickoff, through the 70s during the second half.

For the high school games tonight, expect mostly cloudy, but dry and pleasant weather. Temperatures will fall slowly into the 60s.

TROPICS: All remains quiet across the Atlantic basin; tropical storm formation is not expected through early next week. Hurricane season runs through the end of November.

ON THIS DATE IN 1998: Four hurricanes were spinning simultaneously in the Atlantic basin: Georges, Ivan, Jeanne, and Karl. That was the first time this had happened since 1893. Georges would make its seventh and final landfall near Biloxi, Mississippi on September 28, 1998.
