Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Very Nice at Midday; Much of the Same for Tomorrow

| September 30, 2020 @ 11:32 am

If you get a chance to get outside for your lunch break, I highly recommend it. It is beautiful with total sunshine and no clouds to mess up the cobalt blue skies. Temperatures at 11:00 am were in the upper 60s to the lower 70s across the area. Anniston and Haleyville were the cool spots at 67 degrees. Troy and Tuscaloosa were the warm spots at 72 degrees. Birmingham was at 71 degrees.

Skies will remain sunny through the rest of the daylight hours and afternoon highs will top out in the mid to upper 70s across Central Alabama. Skies will remain clear through the late night and overnight hours with lows dipping into the lower to mid-50 for most.

Thursday looks to be a near carbon copy of today with slightly warmer temperatures for most, but a reinforcing shot of cooler air will start to move into the northwest corner of the area before we reach the maximum heating of the day. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 70s to the lower 80s across the area from northwest to southeast.

The only activity we have in the tropics is a tropical wave located over the west-central Caribbean Sea is expected to move westward over the next couple of days and interact with a frontal system, producing a broad area of low pressure over the western Caribbean Sea by Thursday night or Friday. Environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for some development thereafter, and a tropical depression could form over the weekend while the system moves slowly west-northwestward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Formation chance through the next 5 days is medium around 60 percent. The rest of the Atlantic Basin is quiet for now. The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season doesn’t end until November 30th, so we still have a while to go.
