Alabama Update at 5:50: Some Heavy Showers Moving North-Northwest Across Parts of the State

| October 9, 2020 @ 5:51 pm

Showers, some heavy, are moving northward across Alabama late this afternoon ahead of a northward moving warm front as Hurricane Delta makes landfall in southwestern Louisiana.

In West Alabama, heavy rain is falling across parts of Pickens, Sumter, and Greene Counties. The heaviest precipitation is from Aliceville to Gainesville to near Livingston.

Other heavy showers, including some with lightning, are over Lowndes County, southwest of Montgomery, They will move into Dallas and Autauga Counties over the next hour, affecting the Selma/Prattville areas. Other showers extend from these across the Montgomery area up and north of I-85 into Auburn and as far north as Alex City.

Light rain is over East Alabama, including parts of Talladega, Clay, and Randolph Counties.

Movement is north-northwest at 30 mph.

None of the weather is expected to become severe tonight, but tornadoes are possible on Saturday as instability and low-level shear combine as the remnants of Hurricane Delta pass to our northwest. Have a reliable way of receiving weather warnings tomorrow just in case.
