Strong Storms over East Alabama’s Pike, Bullock, Macon, and Montgomery Counties

| January 1, 2021 @ 8:35 am

Strong storms are occurring this morning over parts of Pike, Bullock, Macon, and Montgomery Counties.

That’s a SIgnificant Weather Advisory outlined in peach in those counties.

They extend from west of Shorter to west of Troy.

Winds could gust to 40 mph as the storms pass. There is lightning as well.

Elsewhere, showers and storms extend from Heflin in Cleburne County to between Ashland and Wedowee to west of Dadeville in Tallapoosa County, on to near Shorter and Troy. There is a good bit of lightning over parts of Randolph and Chambers Counties.

The storms don’t have much to work with in the way of surface based CAPE, but they are being fed some from the rear. There is really good wind shear though, so we will be watching carefully to make sure they don’t intensify further.
