A Few Snow Showers For The Tennessee Valley Tonight/Early Tomorrow
TRENDING COLDER: A cold front passed through Alabama mostly in dry fashion overnight; today will feature a mostly sunny sky this morning, followed by scattered clouds this afternoon. The high will be around 50 degrees for the northern half of the state, with mid 50s to the south. Then, tonight, as colder air rolls into the state, a disturbance has the potential to bring snow showers and flurries to the northern quarter of Alabama.
The best chance of seeing a few snow flakes tonight and tomorrow morning will be along and north of U.S. 278 (Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden). While grassy areas could become white in a few spots with some light accumulation, no impact is expected. For the rest of the state, tonight will be mostly cloudy and colder.
For tomorrow, morning clouds will give way to a mostly sunny afternoon with a high in the mid 40s. Then, on Sunday, the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with a high in the 50-55 degree range.
NEXT WEEK: Monday and Tuesday will be dry with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Then, as moisture levels increase, we will bring in the chance of some scattered light rain Wednesday, but rain will be more likely Thursday and Friday. Heavier totals will be found over the northern half of the state, where amounts could exceed two inches in spots. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
ON THIS DATE IN 1967: The Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10, in Super Bowl I at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. From the weather station at the USC campus in downtown LA, the high temperature was 79 degrees and the low was 51. There was a light west wind.
ON THIS DATE IN 1972: In Flint, Michigan, daytime temperature rose to only -3 degrees. This is the second coldest maximum temperature recorded in the city of Flint since 1921. Detroit’s high temperature was zero.
