Midday Nowcast: Tons of Sunshine For Now

| January 15, 2021 @ 11:26 am

Frontal Passage occurred overnight and will allow for colder air to settle into Alabama over the weekend. The sky cleared this morning, and we are seeing tons of sunshine across the state at the midday hours, but more clouds to our northwest will be rolling back into the northern half of the state late today and through the overnight hours.

Temperatures will be climbing well into the 50s this afternoon in many locations.

Winds will be increasing through the afternoon as well and will become quite gusty in the 15-30 mph range.

TONIGHT: Tonight will be a cloudy and cold one across the northern half of the state, where some snow showers can not be ruled out overnight. Lows by tomorrow morning will be around 30° with wind chills well down into the 20s. The best chance of seeing a few snow flakes tonight and tomorrow morning will be along and north of U.S. 278 (Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden). While grassy areas could become white in a few spots with some light accumulation, no impact is expected.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will be a chilly day with more clouds than sun for the northern half of the state, and again some snow showers are possible, especially across Northeast Alabama. By the afternoon, we should see more sun, but temperatures will only be in the mid 40s. Saturday night/Sunday morning should be the coldest with 20s for many spots. Then on Sunday, we will see more clouds ahead of an approaching front, but it comes through in dry fashion and our highs Sunday will be in the low to mid 50s.
