“I’m visiting my grandmother’s grave for the first time. We buried her and it’s just my first time out here to see her. I’m glad she’s at rest and all the pain is gone. I just recently moved back from Huntsville and I came to stay with her just to help her out until I got back on my feet. Just those couple of months, watching her on a daily basis, it was hard to see. I kind of knew it was coming but I had to prepare myself. It still hurts. Right now, it doesn’t even seem real. I’m just trying to deal with it now and not let it affect my daily life because I still have to go to work. At first, I was learning how to function, now I’ve got to focus on fixing my life emotionally. Growing up with my grandparents and losing my grandma, especially this time in life, is kind of hard with everything going on.” — Jared Presswood, of Bessemer.

Presswood, a Hueytown High School graduate, went to Alabama A&M before coming back to Birmingham to work. He hopes to be able to get back to a four-year school to study business management. He is also trying to maintain and stay focused this year.
