Midday Nowcast: Dry Today, but Rain is on the Way

The weak front continues to sink south through the state and is near the Gulf Coast at the midday hours with generally a sky with more sun than clouds and dry conditions.

Temperatures at midday are in the upper 40s, and into this afternoon will be ranging from the mid 50s to mid 60s across the state of Alabama.

RAIN RETURNS: Clouds return to Alabama tonight and the weather turns wet tomorrow and Friday for the entire state. Expect periods of rain and cloudy conditions both days with highs in the 50s. There is no risk for severe storms, and probably no thunder as the air will be stable. Rainfall totals through Friday will be around one inch, with isolated higher amounts of two inches possible, especially across South Alabama.

WEEKEND WEATHER: Saturday will be a dry day with a partly sunny sky and highs in the mid 50s. On Sunday, a warm front will lift north from the Gulf in response to a developing system to our west, allowing moisture levels to rise and clouds to return with showers increasing through the afternoon hours. Highs Sunday should approach the 60s.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1937: The wettest Inaugural Day of record with 1.77 inches of rain in 24 hours. Temperatures were only in the 30s as Franklin D. Roosevelt was sworn in for his second term.
