Significant Weather Advisory For Northeast Alabama’s Jackson County for Light Snow Accumulations

| January 31, 2021 @ 2:01 pm

The NWS Huntsville has issued a significant weather advisory for light snow accumulations over Northeast Alabama’s Jackson County starting late tonight through Monday evening. Accumulations could reach one inch over the higher elevations of Jackson County up into the southern Cumberland Plateau.

It appears that the trough will close off into an upper low to our northeast, and this will cause some precipitation to wrap around the low into the northeastern portions of Alabama overnight tonight and early Monday. This could fall in the form of light snow showers or light snow flurries between midnight and 9 a.m. It could continue for the rest of the day Monday over extreme Northeast Alabama including Jackson County, where an inch of snow may eventually accumulate.

Elsewhere, some light snow flurries and light snow showers could impact areas northeast of I-22 and north of I-20 late tonight and early Monday. Accumulations and travel problems are not expected because temperatures are generally expected to be above freezing and there shouldn’t be any travel problems.

Here is the text of the advisory from the NWS Huntsville:
