“I like to take long drives to relax and listen to my music. If not, take a shower and listen to my music. Anything music-related helps me completely zone out. I’m a Zumba fitness instructor, so we love music. I haven’t been able to teach because of COVID. I picked up hiking two years ago because I wanted something more challenging, and nature gives me my peace. To go sit by the water is like the closest thing you can be to heaven and get that inner peace, that joy that we long for. The world becomes silent. I have two kids, so everybody knows how those 30 minutes of peace can be. I’ve just recently started working at a jail, so when I come hiking, I completely embody my freedom because of what I see every day as a part of work. This is like the opposite. I’ve been hiking almost every Saturday since I started.” – Alisha Barnes of Tuscaloosa.

Barnes has lived in Tuscaloosa all her life. She was enjoying a hike at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve with Ladies Who Hike.
