People of Alabama

“The Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the fight to federal recognition was a very difficult and challenging fight to achieve, but we had leaders who did an exceptional job and they never gave up. What they instilled with their challenge of federal recognition is proven to never give up on your dreams and aspirations to better someone’s life. It’s not easy, it’s not easy at all. They sacrificed a lot of time away from their families to make other people’s lives better. I just really encourage the younger generation to look at life about helping others. Your legacy is not about materialistic things, you can’t take money with you, but you can take the legacy that you helped so many people and you inspired people to be great and do great things. I try to encourage and inspire people to set those goals and measure them. You will have challenges, but our challenges make us stronger and more resilient so we can face the future and we can face that vision for making Alabama great.” – Stephanie Bryan of Atmore.

Bryan is the tribal chair and CEO for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She tries to encourage others to dream big and do great things.

“Never say you can’t do anything, I’ve instilled that in my children and I’ve instilled that in my leadership to encourage that younger generation and even the older people in society. If there are dreams that you have and desires that you have to do things, do it. Set those goals and then measure them. If you do not accomplish them, that’s OK. In life we’re going to make mistakes but we learn from those mistakes. Life is about choices and if it’s a choice that you choose to make to better the world, I’m encouraged.”
