Midday Nowcast: Marvelous March Weather

| March 10, 2021 @ 11:20 am

A strong upper-air ridge over the Gulf Coast States continues to bring us this great weather with cool nights and sunny, warm afternoons. Highs this afternoon are surging into the mid and upper 70s with upper 70s and lower 80s across the state tomorrow and Friday. The sky continues to feature a mix of sun and clouds with some areas of continued haziness due to smoke from prescribed burns and wildfires ongoing across the state.

USA BRIEF: A storm tracking from the central Plains to the Upper Midwest will bring a streak of heavy snow and perhaps some ice Wednesday from Wyoming into Minnesota. Severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain are also possible in the central Plains and mid-Mississippi Valley with this system. A second storm will continue heavy snow over the California mountains into Wednesday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The mainly dry pattern continues through the weekend for Alabama, despite a significant storm system developing to our west. This system will bring snow in the Rockies and into the Northern Plains, while severe storms are likely in the Southern Plains and Southern Mississippi River Valley. For us in Alabama, both Saturday and Sunday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs ranging from the upper 70s to lower 80s. A few showers are possible late Sunday in West Alabama, but for the most part, the weekend stays rain-free.

SPRING FORWARD: We go back on Daylight Saving Time this weekend…we lose an hour of sleep as the clocks will be moved forward one hour Saturday night. Sunset time Sunday evening at Birmingham will be 6:54pm CDT. Also, it is a great time to check those smoke detectors and weatherradios are working and have fresh batteries in them.

BEACH FORECAST CENTER: Get the latest weather and rip current forecasts for the beaches from Fort Morgan to Panama City on our Beach Forecast Center page. There, you can select the forecast of the region that you are interested in visiting.
