Radar Update at 9:30 a.m.: Things Remain Quiet Across Alabama

| April 8, 2021 @ 9:31 am

At 9:30, a line of showers was over North Alabama, extending from near Moore’s Mill to Normal, to Madison, and onto Triana.

There was not much, if any, in the way of lightning with the cells over North Alabama. There was some over southern Tennessee.

The NWS in Huntsville just issued a significant weather advisory for parts of Madison and Jackson Counties in Alabama, as well as parts of Lincoln and Franklin Counties in southern Tennessee for the storm over northern Hunsvtiile. It could have wind gusts to 40 mph with it.

The activity has been going downhill for the past couple of hours as the upper-level dynamics have been exiting the area. There could be a few additional showers ahead of the front as it makes its way across our state later today, but no strong storms are expected.

A weak and diffuse cold front is pushing across northern Mississippi at this hour. It will push into Northwest Alabama by noon and will reach the I-59 Corridor in the 4-5 p.m. time frame. This front will stall over South Central Alabama tonight and come back northward as a warm front. Severe weather will be possible tomorrow and into Saturday morning as a strong upper trough rotates by to our northwest.
