Birmingham’s Latest Snow Fell on this Date

The NWS in Birmingham sent out this PNS 34 years ago today…

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BIRMINGHAM AL
740 AM CDT SAT APR 25 1987

SEVENTY SEVEN YEARS AGO THIS MORNING IT WAS SNOWING IN
BIRMINGHAM.

ON APRIL 25 1910…SNOW FLURRIES WERE OBSERVED FOR ABOUT
THREE HOURS IN THE CITY FOLLOWED BY A HEAVY FROST THE
NEXT MORNING.

THAT IS THE LATEST IN THE SEASON THAT SNOW FLAKES HAVE
EVER BEEN SEEN IN BIRMINGHAM.

The morning low in Birmingham was 33F. The afternoon only rose to 41F.

Residents in Lamar County woke up to an inch of snow that morning.

The new corn crop was completely killed by the freezing temperatures. It had already grown to a height of four inches prior to the snow and cold.

The cotton crop was also ruined and had to be replanted.
