Severe T-Storm Watch Issued for All of Central Alabama Until 8:00 pm, Replaces Tornado Watch Issued Earlier

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the following counties in Central Alabama: Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Chilton, Dallas, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch replaces the Tornado Watch for the following counties in Central Alabama: Bullock, Chambers, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Elmore, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Randolph, Russell, Tallapoosa.

The entire watch is set to expire at 8:00 pm this evening.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Alabama
Eastern Mississippi

* Effective this Monday morning and evening from 1150 AM until
800 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 65 mph possible
Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible
A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY…Scattered thunderstorms are expected to be focused in two
corridors of confluence across east-central to central Alabama and
farther south in southern Alabama. Damaging winds and large hail are
the primary threats.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

REMEMBER…A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
