Midday Nowcast: Sun and Clouds Across the Alabama Landscape

| May 19, 2021 @ 11:12 am

Another day with a mix of sun and clouds, warm temperatures, and breezy conditions at times. Temperatures will again surge into the 80s this afternoon and easterly winds continue to blow in the 10-20 mph. Rain chances are near zero for much of the state, but a few stray showers are certainly possible across West Alabama, near the Mississippi line. Tonight will feature passing clouds and mild temperatures with lows in the 60s.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: The upper ridge strengthens across the Deep South, meaning continued dry weather and rising temperatures these days. Both days will feature a mostly sunny sky and highs in the mid to upper 80s, with a few low 90s down to the south, especially by Friday.

IN THE TROPICS: A non-tropical low pressure system is forecast to develop a few hundred miles northeast of Bermuda by late Thursday and produce gale-force winds. The low could then move southwestward over warmer waters on Friday and acquire some subtropical characteristics before the system moves toward the north and northeast into a more hostile environment by Sunday. Formation chance through 5 days…low…30 percent.
