Midday Nowcast: A Few Showers Possible

| May 26, 2021 @ 11:19 am

The upper-level ridge over the region is beginning to loosen its grip on our weather, and this will allow for a few pop-up showers over the northern half of Alabama today and tonight, but most locations look to remain dry.

At midday, there are a few showers near the state line with Mississippi and through the afternoon we will be seeing more sun than clouds, and temperatures climbing into the upper 80s to low 90s across all of Alabama.

BETTER RAIN CHANCES: Tomorrow will be very similar to today, expect a mix of sun and clouds with some scattered afternoon and evening showers. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 80s. For Friday, a surface front will push into Alabama allowing for a better coverage of showers and storms Friday afternoon, evening, and night, and a few strong storms can’t be ruled out; the SPC has areas north of Interstate 59 in a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) as a few storms could produce gusty wind and hail. Highs Friday will again be in the 80s. Also, even though rain chances are higher, still not everyone will see rain.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Behind the front, drier and cooler air settles into Alabama for the long holiday weekend. Saturday through Monday, expect a mix of sun and clouds each day with highs in the low to mid-80s. Rain chances are very low, but not zero, and it looks like the better rain chances will be closer to the Gulf Coast, but even there, not a lot of activity.

IN THE TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic Basin and tropical cyclone development is not expected the next five days. Hurricane officially begins one week from toddy, Tuesday June 1st.

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Very warm and generally dry weather continues in Hoover today and tomorrow with only a very small risk of a shower… highs will be in the 87-90 degree range. A brief passing shower or storm is possible late Friday or Friday night, then the weekend will feature beautiful weather with sunny days, fair nights, and lower heat levels. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 80s.
