Clouds to the North, Sun to the South

It was a cool and cloudy start to the day with widespread 50s. At the midday hours, clouds linger across North Alabama, keeping temperatures in the 50s and 60s, while the sun is out for much of Central and South Alabama, allowing temperatures to head into the low and mid-70s.

These temperatures are a good ten degrees below average for this time of year. Plus, dew points are in the 40s and 50s, making it feel truly amazing for late May in Alabama. For tonight, the sky will be clear and it will be downright chilly as lows fall into 40s and 50s areawide.

THE REST OF MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: For tomorrow and Monday, expect sunshine in full supply with continued pleasant temperatures with highs close to 80° tomorrow with low to upper 80s Monday and humidity levels will remain low.

HELLO JUNE: As we start the new month, the weather pattern looks pretty routine for this time of year as moisture levels start to rise. Highs will be in the mid and upper 80s each day, with a mix of sun and clouds. Each day will also have scattered afternoon showers and storms popping up across the Alabama landscape. By Thursday and Friday, rain chances look to increase with a trough developing to the west of the state so rain and storms will become more widespread.

IN THE TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic Basin and tropical cyclone development is not expected the next five days. Hurricane season “officially” begins on Tuesday.

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Expect lots of sunshine today and tomorrow with temperatures in the 70s along with lower humidity levels.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1989: Wintry weather gripped parts of the northwestern U.S. for the second day in a row. Great Falls, MT, was blanketed with 12 inches of snow, which pushed their total for the winter season to a record 117.4 inches. Six inches of snow whitened the Cascade Mountains of Oregon.
