Showers & A Few Storms Out There at Midday; Coverage Expected to Increase Later Today

| June 6, 2021 @ 12:40 pm

As of 11:51 am, nearly all of the northern parts of Central Alabama, along with a good portion of the extreme western part, are covered in showers and a few thunderstorms. All of the thunder is occurring over extreme southwestern parts of the area over the southern half of Sumter County. A few light showers are also falling over portions of the east-central and southeastern parts of the area. Temperatures are ranging from as low as 70 degrees in Bessemer and Calera, to as high as 83 degrees in Eufaula. Birmingham was at 71 degrees.

Rain and thunderstorms will become likely across all of Central Alabama as we move later into the day and through the evening and overnight hours. While we can’t rule out a strong storm in the extreme southwestern parts of the area, severe weather is not expected for much of Central Alabama. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to the mid-80s and only dropping into the upper 60s to the lower 70s for the overnight lows.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be likely across all of Central Alabama on Monday, and some of the rain could be heavy at times, especially over the southwestern parts of the area. We could see a few isolated flooding issues arise with the training of cells. Severe weather is not expected and a few locations will get a decent soaking. Highs will be in the lower to mid-80s.

While the Atlantic Basin is all quiet for now with no threat of any tropical systems developing over the next five days, the European model continues to show a little tropical mischief along the Gulf Coast on the morning hours of Thursday, June 17th. This is now a full 24-hours earlier than what I mentioned in this morning’s video, so it goes to show that there is no certainty in forecasting this far out in Voodoo Land.
