Flood Advisory for parts of Greene, Jefferson, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa Counties

The NWS in Birmingham has issued a Flood Advisory for parts of Greene, Jefferson, Pickens, Sumter, and Tuscaloosa Counties.

1.42 inches of rain has fallen in Tuscaloosa over the last hour alone.

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for…
Southwestern Jefferson County in central Alabama…
Northern Greene County in west central Alabama…
Southeastern Pickens County in west central Alabama…
North Central Sumter County in west central Alabama…
Central Tuscaloosa County in west central Alabama…

* Until 930 PM CDT.

* At 627 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Tuscaloosa, Northport, Holt, Brookwood, Coker, Union, Tuscaloosa
Regional Airport, Lake Lurleen State Park, Tuscaloosa
Amphitheater, Shelton State Community College, Jena, Bryant Denny
Stadium, McFarland Mall, University Mall, Knoxville, Binion Creek
Landing, Mantua, Benevola, Deerlick Creek Campgrounds and Bankhead
Lock And Dam.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the
area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
