SOME SUN, SOME RAIN: As expected, the most numerous showers and storms today have been over the northwest quarter of Alabama. We actually had flash flood warnings issued earlier today for Lawrence, Limestone, and Madison counties up in the Tennessee Valley, where some roads were closed temporarily due to flooding. Showers and storms continue this afternoon in a broad area from near Columbus, Mississippi to Huntsville, with very little rain elsewhere in Alabama.

The weather won’t change much through Friday; warm and humid days with a chance of scattered showers and storms, most numerous over on the western side of the state. Highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s. While we can’t rule out a shower or storm at some high school stadiums tomorrow night and Friday night, there is a decent chance a majority of the game sites will be dry this week.

THE WEEKEND: The upper low that has been parked over the nation’s mid-section will open up and kick out over the weekend, and that feature should bring a marked increase in the number of showers and storms on Saturday. Some storms could be on the strong side, and heavy rain is very possible at times. College football fans will need the rain gear again for games in Alabama.

Drier air begins to arrive Sunday; we could see a few stray showers, mainly Sunday morning, but now any rain looks rather light and spotty.

A CHANCE TO DRY OUT: A stronger front will move through Monday. Not much moisture, but it could squeeze out a shower or two during the day. Then, a refreshing airmass will settle in here for the rest of the week with sunny days, clear cool nights, and low humidity levels. Lows will drop down into the 50s at mid-week, but some of the cooler valleys could reach the upper 40s. We look dry Tuesday all the way through Friday.

TROPICS: Nothing happening across the Atlantic basin; tropical storm formation is not expected through Friday.
