EXPIRED — Flood Advisory for Parts of Cherokee & Etowah Co. Until 7:15 pm

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Flood Advisory for…
Western Cherokee County in northeastern Alabama…
Northeastern Etowah County in northeastern Alabama…

* Until 715 PM CDT.

* At 407 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have
fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Gadsden, Centre, Cedar Bluff, Centre Municipal Airport, Little
River Canyon National Preserve, Leesburg, Reece City, Sand Rock,
Cherokee Rock Village, Slackland, Tabor Road, Western Weiss Lake,
Ballplay, Tennala, Eastern Weiss Lake, Blanche, Little River
Falls, Weiss Dam, Yellow Creek Falls and Chesnut Bay Resort.

Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the
area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
