| September 25, 2021 @ 10:44 am

REST OF TODAY: Any clouds that we had out there over Central Alabama has now dissipated and we are left with crystal clear, cobalt blue skies. Temperatures as of 10:30 am were in the upper 60s to the upper 70s. Several locations were tied as the cool spots at 68 degrees. Troy was the warm spot at 79 degrees. Birmingham was sitting at 72 degrees. Skies will remain mainly sunny throughout the remainder of the daylight hours with highs topping out in the upper 70s to the lower 80s. Skies will be clear tonight with overnight lows dropping into the mid to upper 50s.

SUNDAY: We’ll stick with the sunny forecast for tomorrow as dry weather continues to dominate the weather pattern across Central Alabama. Highs will top out in the upper 70s to the mid 80s.

THE TROPICS: Sam has now strengthened into a major hurricane with maximum sustained winds at 120 mph with further strengthening expected, potentially becoming a category 4 hurricane on Sunday. Sam is moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph, and a slower motion to the west-northwest is expected over the weekend, followed by a turn to the northwest on Monday. After that, models have Sam turing more to the north and staying well away from the US East Coast.

Teresa is now a subtropical depression and continues to be a very disorganized disturbance. At this point, Teresa is nearly stationary, but a motion toward the northeast is expected to begin this afternoon and continue through Sunday morning. Teresa will not be with us too much longer as she is expected to become a remnant low by this evening and dissipate on Sunday.

An area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms associated with the remnants of Peter is located several hundred miles south of Bermuda. Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for slow development of this disturbance over the next few days as it moves northeastward at 5 to 10 mph.
*Formation chance through 48 hours… low… 10 percent.
*Formation chance through 5 days… low… 20 percent.

A tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa by early Monday. Thereafter, environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week while the system moves westward at 10 to 15 mph over the far eastern tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours… low… near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days… medium… 50 percent.
