Sam Continues West Northwest as a Category Four Hurricane

| September 26, 2021 @ 10:01 am

Sam is a powerful hurricane this morning. There has been no recent reconnaissance activity into the storm, but its satellite presentation has remained fairly steady since last night. Top winds are estimated to be 145 mph with a central pressure of 943 millibars. It has a large central dense overcast of very cold, and high cloud tops. Outflow is good seemingly in all quadrants.

It is moving northwest at 8 mph, but that seems to be slowing.

All of our global and hurricane models turn the major hurricane to the northwest, keeping it at least 300 miles from the islands of the Northeast Caribbean, which is good news.

It should not impact the U.S. East Coast unless something changes dramatically.

By Friday morning, the end of the forecast period, it will be some 500 miles south of Bermuda. Both the Euro and the GFS carry the storm east of the island by a few hundred miles, which is good news for that beautiful place.

Here is the 10 a.m. Advisory:
