Midday Nowcast: Rain and Storms Remain Possible

The rest of the day, rain chances are lower as the upper low begins to lift out of the area, but we will maintain the chance for scattered showers and storms mainly east of Interstate 65. We will continue to see more clouds than sun, with highs in the upper 70s.

All of Alabama is waterlogged and any additional rain that falls today could easily lead to flash flooding, and the Flash Flood Watch has been extended until 7PM this evening for much of Central and East Alabama.

Late this morning, the radars across the state are mostly quiet, minus an are of rain in East Alabama, south of the Interstate 20 corridor.

Again, as we have seen in recent days, showers and storms will increase in coverage and intensity through the afternoon hours.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Dry air returns to the state tomorrow; the sky will be mostly sunny these three days and it will be warm. Highs tomorrow will return to the low 80s, with low to to mid 80s Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be in the 60s for most locations, with some 50s possible in cooler spots.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The sky will be clear for the high school games Friday night with temperatures falling through the 70s.

GEORGIA AT AUBURN (2:30p CT kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium): It will be a sunny, warm afternoon in East Alabama; expect a kickoff temperature near 83 degrees, falling into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter.

FAU AT UAB (2:30p CT kickoff at Protective Stadium in Birmingham): Sunny and warm; 83 degrees at kickoff… about 76 by the final whistle.

SFA AT JACKSONVILLE STATE (3:00p CT kickoff at Burgess-Snow Field): Sunny and warm with 82 degrees at kickoff, mid 70s by the fourth quarter.

SOUTH ALABAMA AT TEXAS STATE (6:00p CT kickoff in San Marcos, Texas): The sky will be clear… temperatures fall from about 88 at kickoff to near 76 by the final whistle.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN AT TROY (6:00p CT kickoff at Veterans Memorial Stadium): The sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 80 degrees at kickoff, into the low 70s by the fourth quarter.

ALABAMA AT TEXAS A&M (7:00p CT kickoff at Kyle Field in College Station): Expect a clear sky with temperatures falling from 85 at kickoff, into the mid 70s by the final whistle.

INTO NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge looks to be the main feature in our weather, so most of the week looks dry and warm with highs in the 80s each day with more sun than clouds.

IN THE TROPICS: A weak area of low pressure located about 100 miles off the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms, well to the northeast of the center of circulation. Strong upper-level winds should limit significant tropical or subtropical development during the next few days while the low moves northeastward at about 5 mph off the coasts of the Carolinas. Some non-tropical development will be possible over the weekend due to the system interacting with a frontal boundary. Regardless of development, this system could bring gusty winds and locally heavy rain to portions of the Carolinas through the weekend. Formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.
