Other Than a Lack of Wind, It’s Not a Bad Saturday at All

| October 9, 2021 @ 3:31 pm

Other than a few fair weather clouds floating overhead this afternoon, skies across Central Alabama are mainly sunny. It’s quite warm out there as well, with temperatures ranging from as low as 81 degrees in Birmingham and at the Shelby County Airport to as warm as 88 degrees down in the southeastern part of the area in the city of Troy. Without a breeze, it is a little stuffy outdoors. We should be right at our high temperatures for the day, as all locations will be in the 80s today.

It was a warm one out there for sure in Oneonta for the Covered Bridge Festival. Great weather brings a great turnout. Plenty of vendors, food trucks, and a lot of grill masters were there with their smokers doing up some great BBQ. Got to see a few performances on the main stage from a couple of local acts. It was a great day out with the family.

Temperatures will begin cooling off and will be down into the upper 70s to the lower 80s around 6 pm, and dropping into the upper 60s to the lower 70s around 10 pm. There will be mainly clear skies, but a few clouds may hang around for a while. Skies will eventually clear out for the overnight hours and lows will reach the lower to mid 60s area wide.

Expect a near repeat of today’s weather on Sunday as skies will be mainly sunny once again with very little wind. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s across the area, mainly from west to east, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a location or two in the western and southwestern parts of the area hits 90.

While we’ll have no weather woes in Central Alabama on your Sunday, there will be some severe action off to our west, especially over portions of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas, as a large system will be sweeping through those locations. An Enhanced Risk for severe storms is up for a large portion of central and east-central parts of Oklahoma and the extreme northern parts of Texas, where all modes of severe weather will be possible. While this is some not-so-good-news for those locations, that action will go north of our area and only bringing us a very small chance of rain on Tuesday.
