A Cool but Beautiful Midday; Frost Advisory for Parts of North/Central Alabama Issued for the Overnight Hours

| November 6, 2021 @ 12:55 pm

Temperatures as of the 12 pm Round-Up were in the mid-50s to right at 60 degrees across Central Alabama as skies have become almost completely clear. The only portions of the area with any remaining cloud cover from the system to our southeast are the extreme southeastern parts. The cool spot was Alexander City at 55 degrees while Troy and Montgomery were tied as the warm spots at 60 degrees each. Birmingham was at 56 degrees. Those afternoon highs will top out in the lower 60s for the most part across Central Alabama, with mid-60s expected in the southwestern parts of the area. Skies will be clear tonight with temperatures dropping into the 50s across the area by 6 pm and eventually into the mid to upper 40s by 10 pm.

We do note that the National Weather Service forecast office out of Birmingham has just issued a FROST ADVISORY for the predawn hours on Sunday morning from 3 am to 6 am as temperatures are forecast to drop into the lower to mid-30s which will result in frost formation. Those counties in the advisory are Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker, and Winston. Lows for counties south of the advisory will be in the upper 30s to right around or just above 40 degrees.

NWS Huntsville has just issued a FROST ADVISORY as well for all of their counties in North Alabama (Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan) from 3 am to 6 am Sunday morning. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the lower 30s which will result in frost formation.

Sunday will be a very bright and sunny day across Central Alabama as temperatures will quickly rise from those chilly early morning lows into the mid to upper 60s for the afternoon highs. Just a heads up… no rain is expected across the area until late on Thursday and through the morning hours on Friday. Milder temperatures will hang around until a cold front moves through the area early on Friday that will bring much cooler and drier air to the area.

At 300 pm GMT (10 am CDT or 1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Wanda was located around 615 miles to the west of the Azores and was moving toward the south near 6 mph. A turn toward the northeast is expected later today, and a continued northeastward motion at a faster forward speed is expected tonight through Monday. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Slight strengthening is expected during the next 24 hours. After that, Wanda is expected to merge with a frontal system, becoming an extratropical low Sunday night or Monday. The rest of the tropics are quiet.
