Midday Nowcast: Clearing Sky, Breezy and Colder

| November 22, 2021 @ 10:14 am

Frontal passage occurred today and behind the front, the sky is clearing and it is turning colder. It is breezy as well, which is making those temperatures, which are holding in the 50s, feel cooler.

The wind will die down tonight, setting the stage for freezing temperatures over the northern two-thirds of the state early tomorrow morning, and another Freeze Warning has been issued for Central Alabama tonight as lows will be mostly in the 25-32 degree range.

REST OF THE WEEK: Dry weather will continue through Thanksgiving Day. With a good supply of sunshine, we expect a high tomorrow in the upper 50s, and closer to 60° Wednesday afternoon. Thursday will be dry, but clouds will increase by afternoon ahead of our next cold front. A few showers could reach the northwest corner of the state late in the day, but showers are most likely Thursday night and very early Friday morning. Rain will be light, thunder is not expected, and again no severe weather.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The front clears the state early Friday morning, and another surge of cool, dry air settles into the state through the upcoming weekend. Friday through Sunday, expect sunny days, and clear cold nights. Friday’s highs will be in the mid 50s, followed by low 60s over the weekend. We still see no chance of any severe thunderstorms for Alabama for the next ten days.

IRON BOWL: The weather will be perfect for the biggest football game of the year in Alabama (Alabama at Auburn, Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium; 2:30p CT kickoff). After a morning low near 30 degrees, the high in Auburn Saturday will be around 60 degrees with sunshine in full supply. Expect a kickoff temperature around 60, then falling through the 50s during the second half.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation outside the U.S. was 108.3F at Matam, Senegal. The lowest observation was -60.3F at Concordia, Antarctica.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 91F at Santee, CA. The lowest observation was -6F at Peter Sinks, UT.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1957: Extremely destructive Santa Ana winds blew from Oxnard to San Diego and inland parts of southern California. The high winds produced a 28,000 acre brush fire on a 40-mile front west of Crystal Lake. People were ordered off streets in some areas due to flying debris.
