As a theater for youth major at Samford University in Homewood, Baleigh Nelson knew there would be no coasting to graduation. During her senior year, she would have to choose and produce a play and tour it, as well as write a paper about it.

Nelson began looking for a play her junior year, but her first choice fell through when she was unable to secure the rights. She was searching a publishing website to help a friend pick out a show when she “just happened on” a play she’d never heard of: “My Broken Doll.”

“I sat down that day and read through the digital copy of the script and just absolutely fell in love with Bea’s story,” said Nelson, who will graduate from Samford April 30.
