Dry Weather Ahead; Big Warm-Up Later This Week
CLEARING: As advertised, the sky is clearing nicely across Alabama this afternoon as dry air and subsidence (sinking air) take over. Temperatures are well below average for mid-April… some spots north of Birmingham haven’t gotten out of the 50s. Tonight will be clear and cool with a low between 37 and 45 degrees for most places.
Tomorrow will be a sunny, cool day with a high in the upper 60s in most places. Dry weather continues through the week with mostly sunny days, fair nights, and a big warming trend. We reach the mid 70s Wednesday, low 80s Thursday, and mid 80s Friday.
WARM WEEKEND: Get ready for the warmest weekend so far this year as an upper ridge holds over the region; look for a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday with highs between 84 and 88 degrees… it will feel more like summer.
NEXT WEEK: Moisture returns early in the week, and a few showers are likely Monday and Tuesday, but the rain won’t be too heavy and there is no risk of severe storms. The rest of the week looks dry with highs in the 70s… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
ON THIS DATE IN 1906: At 5:12 AM, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hits San Francisco. A devastating fire soon broke out in the city and lasted for several days. About 3,000 people died, and over 80 percent of San Francisco was destroyed.
ON THIS DATE IN 2019: A total of 44 confirmed tornadoes touched down across Mississippi, the strongest of which caused high-end EF2 damage in Morton. This ties the Hurricane Rita tornado outbreak as the largest outbreak in Mississippi state history.
