Midday Nowcast: Generally Sunny and Warm

| May 10, 2022 @ 10:25 am

An upper ridge across the region is keeping our weather quiet and calm across Alabama this week. Some locations have been dealing with clouds this morning, but most locations are sunny, and the sun will win the day as the clouds erode away. We are seeing temperatures surge well into the mid 80s across Alabama today. Tonight will be another mainly clear and cool one with upper 50s and lower 60s.

USA BRIEF: Widespread critical fire weather threats and red flag warnings extend today from the Southwest through a large section of the Four Corners region into the southern High Plains. Conditions remain exceptionally dry here with strong, gusty winds and above normal temperatures. A couple of locations may see severe thunderstorms today, across the Upper Mississippi Valley and in west Texas.

REST OF WEEK: Little change in the day to day forecast the next several days as we stay generally sunny and warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s. We will mention a weak disturbance could bring an isolated shower to the northern part of the state tomorrow, but most of the state will stay dry, and we expect dry conditions to continue through Friday across Alabama.

WEEKEND WEATHER: We will mention some risk of widely scattered showers over the weekend, but nothing widespread or heavy. Otherwise, look for a partly sunny sky Saturday and Sunday with highs remaining in the mid to upper 80s. Chance of any one place seeing rain both days are around 20-30 percent.

NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge is going nowhere anytime soon, so the pattern looks to remain dry with no prospects of widespread or beneficial rain. Much of next week looks fairly quiet with only a few isolated showers around from time to time. Highs will range from the upper 80s to lower 90s most of the week.
