SPC Issues Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 3 Counties in Central Alabama Until 8 pm

NWS Birmingham along with the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 pm tonight for the following counties in the southwestern parts of Central Alabama: Dallas, Marengo, Sumter.

Here is the text from the Storm Prediction Center:

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Southwest Alabama
Western Florida Panhandle
Southeast Louisiana
southeast Mississippi
Coastal Waters

* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 140 PM until
800 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY… A long-lived line of severe thunderstorms will continue
moving southeast across the watch area this afternoon and early
evening. Damaging wind gusts will be the primary severe risk,
although a tornado or two will also be possible.

REMEMBER… A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
