Hot and Dry this Week

THE HEAT DOME MOVES IN FOR THE WORK WEEK AHEAD
A dome of high pressure will take its hold over Central Alabama that will lead to very hot temperatures and increasing humidity levels, but those look to stay low enough to keep heat advisories from being issued. It doesn’t look like any rain will help cool us off any until the weekend, with a trough attempting to weekend the ridge over the eastern half of the southeast. We’re looking at sunny skies each day of the work week with highs in the lower to mid 90s on Monday, mid to upper 90s for most on Tuesday, upper 90s to the lower 100s on Wednesday, and the mid 90s to the lower 100s on Thursday and Friday.

THE CENTRAL ALABAMA WEEKEND
Skies will remain mostly sunny and temperatures will remain hot, but some locations could see a few isolated afternoon showers and storms on either day as the eastern side of the ridge may weaken due to an impinging trough. Saturday’s highs will be in the lower 90s to the lower 100s, while Sunday’s highs look to drop back into the 90s for all of Central Alabama.

THE TROPICS
For the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next five days.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY — 1928
A farmer near Greensburg, KS looked up into the heart of a tornado. He described its walls as “rotating clouds lit with constant flashes of lightning and a strong gassy odor with a screaming, hissing sound”.
