Late Night Weather Report – Rain Has Moved In Over the Northwest Corner of the State

At 10:25 pm, much of the rain and thunderstorm activity remains off to our west over Mississippi, but rain has encroached into our northwestern counties. The western counties are now starting to get rain as the precipitation crosses the state line from Mississippi. We also have a few scattered showers over portions of the eastern Tennessee Valley and down into the northeastern parts of Central Alabama. No severe weather for us at the moment.

We still have a Marginal Risk of severe storms up for the western two-thirds of the area through the remainder of tonight and into the morning hours on Thursday, roughly from 11pm to 9am from west to east. After that, a Marginal Risk is up for most locations south of I-85 from 9am to 5pm. Isolated damaging winds and a brief tornado will be possible with any storm that goes severe.

Instability will continue to drop over the area as time goes on, and storms will be weakening as they enter and move across the area. Action may start to pick back up over the southern and southeastern parts of the area late tomorrow morning and into the afternoon as instability will begin to rise ahead of the line of showers and storms.

Go ahead and get some sleep, but be sure you have a way to receive warnings that will wake you up if you happen to go under a warning. Smartphones and NOAA Weather Radios are always the best bets.
