NEW Freeze Watch for Monday and Tuesday Nights for Central Alabama

| March 12, 2023 @ 3:14 pm

The NWS Birmingham has just issued a freeze watch for Monday and Tuesday nights…

It includes all of Birmingham’s Central Alabama counties:

…FREEZE WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING…

* WHAT…Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 possible.

* WHERE…All of Central Alabama.

* WHEN…From late Monday night through Tuesday morning and
Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Recent weeks of above normal temperatures
have resulted in an early spring green up, and some vegetation
may already be susceptible to freeze damage.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
