Heavy Snow in Parts of Central Alabama, But Changeover to Rain Occurring in the I-20 Corridor
Heavy snow is falling across the northern third of Alabama early this morning, with a quick burst of 1-3 inches of snow falling in spots.
The NWS Birmingham has upgraded Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Shelby, Talladega, Clay, and Randolph counties to Winter Storm Warnings.
The switchover we expected is happening, changing to a mix of sleet and freezing rain across parts of Lamar, Fayette, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, southern Walker, Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb, Chilton, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Chambers Counties.
We are as cold as we are going to be now, and the changeover should continue.
Tuscaloosa is switching to rain with a temperature of 33F.
Roads are snow covered and dangerous. Traffic is light, but there are a few accidents. Travel in the warning area is not recommended.
To the north, light to moderate snow continues across the northern third of Alabama from the Shoals to Moulton, the Huntsville/Decatur area down to Cullman and over to Scottsboro, Fort Payne, Centre, and Gadsden.
